Smiths Detection, a leading supplier in threat detection and security screening technologies, announces the launching of SDX 10060 XDi, a ground-breaking X-ray scanner powered by diffraction technology.

\n\n

X-ray Diffraction (XRD) is a powerful inspection technology offering highly accurate material discrimination and substance identification based on an object’s molecular structure. XRD is particularly suited to detecting constantly evolving compounds in powder, liquid or solid forms, such as ‘homemade’ explosives or narcotics, even for materials with similar densities.

\n\n

Multi-level baggage and material handling operations and express forwarders are under pressure to screen huge volumes quickly and efficiently. The SDX 10060 XDi can transform this process by automating the resolution of potential explosive alarms, in turn improving both security and efficiency.

\n\n

Due to its exceptional sensitivity, XRD technology can also be very effectively deployed to support customs agencies in screening for a range of contraband items including narcotics, helping to mitigate ever-growing threats to society.

The SDX 10060 XDi can integrate seamlessly with existing material and baggage handling systems and is designed to meet ECAC Standard 3.1/3.2 and TSA 7.2 plus future regulations. Certification is underway.

Smiths Detection, one of the global leading provider for threat detection and security screening technologies, announces that it will supply Fukuoka International Airport Co., Ltd with 12 HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX X-ray scanners and 12 automatic tray return systems, the iLane A20. The technology will be in use at the North and South Domestic Checkpoints.

\n\n

The HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX, a computed tomography (CT) X-ray scanner produces high-resolution volumetric 3D images for quicker and deeper baggage assessment and low false-alarm rates. Implementation of the new scanner will allow passengers to leave their liquids and electronics in their hand luggage, helping to speed up security screening, without compromising on safety. The iLane A20, a next-generation fully automated tray return system, delivers high throughput and efficiency, streamlining the screening process and eliminating passenger bottlenecks.

\n42 units of Smiths Detection’s industry-leading 3D X-ray scanners are already in use in Japan, as well as 143 iLane tray return systems. The HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX and iLane A20 are expected to be able to scan more than 250 passengers per hour, approximately 1.5 times the previous throughput of around 170 passengers per hour.

Smiths Detection’s North & South Asia Market Head, Aurelien Guilbert said: “We’re thrilled to be working Fukuoka International Airport to enhance security and improve the overall passenger experience by allowing passengers to leave large electronics and liquids in their carry-on bags. Already in use across country, the H-SCAN 6040 CTiX is the leading checkpoint CT X-ray in Japan”.

Smiths Detection’s technology will be installed by the end of March 2024. Fukuoka Airport domestic checkpoint will become the third airport in Japan to harness the power of Smiths Detection’s 3D X-ray screening technology, alongside Haneda Airport domestic checkpoint and Naha Airport domestic checkpoint.
